Indian Freedom Fighters

India received independence on 15th August, 1947. It was able to free itself from the shackles of the British rule with the help of freedom fighters. Many people participated in the Indian freedom struggle. Ashfaqulla Khan,  The prominent Indian freedom fighters are Mahatma Gandhi, Subhash Chandra Bose, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Sardar Patel, Bhagat Singh, Khudiram Bose, Ramprasad Bismil, Madame Cama, Aurobindo Ghosh, Bagha Jatin, Suhdev, Rajguru, Surya Sen, Jawaharlal Nehru, Vinayak Sawarkar, Vijay Lakshmi Pandit, kasturba Gandhi, Matangini Hazra and many others.

The first name which usually comes to our mind while thinking about India's freedom struggle is of Gandhiji. He had dedicated his life to seek the ideals of truth, non-violence and love. He led many important movements which contributed to India's freedom struggle. He was associated with Non-Cooperation movement, Dandi March, Civil Disobedience Movement, Quit India Movement. The non cooperation movement urged the people of India to boycott foreign made products. It also urged the people to use Indian products. But Gandhiji withdrew the movement before it was completed after the Chauri Chaura incident. That incident took the lives of 22 police men. Gandiji who believe in non violence could not tolerate this and withdrew the movement when it had gained momentum. He was also a prominent figure of the Indian National Congress.

Subhas Chandra Bose is considered as the most important and highly respected leader. He is one of the most famous Indian Freedom fighters. He was elected as the President of Indian National Congress but resigned from the post after having ideological differences with Mohan Das Karam Chand Gandhi. He then formed a separate political party which was known as All India Forward Bloc. 

Khudiram Bose is one of the most important Indian freedom fighters. He threw bomb on the British. He was then only 16 at that time. At the age of 19, he was hanged till death by the Britsih Government. He became a martyr.   

Bhagat Singh became a martyr at the age of 23. He dreamt of uprooting the British rule from India. He was associated with the murder of J. P. Saunders. He along with Batukeshwar Dutta threw a bomb at the assembly. Shortly after that he was arrested and was given death sentence.

Surya Sen was a fighter from Bengal. He was convinced that to fight against the British Indians will have to follow the guerriall technique. He was associated with Chittagong Armoury Raid in 1930. Aurobindo Ghosh, his brother Barin Ghosh and Bhupendranath Datta organized revolutionary activities in Bengal. 

Bal Gangadhar Tilak wads the man who demanded for Swaraj from the British Government. Ramprasad Bismil was a brave revolutionary who was associated with the Kakori Rail Dacoity Episode. Jawaharlal Nehru was a prominent leader who took active part in the freedom of India. 

Many women Indian freedom fighters are Kasturba Bai, Vijay Lakshmi Pandit, Matangini Hazra and many others. Their role can not be over looked. 

Rabindra Nath Tagore, Swami Vivekanada, even though did not took active part in the freedom struggle yet their contribution could not be overlooked.
